Collecting and using personal data
Comments: to help us detect unwanted comments, we collect the data you enter in the comment form, as well as your IP address and browser user agent.
Media: If you are a registered user and upload images to the platform, we advise you to avoid uploading images containing EXIF data with GPS coordinates. Users of the website can download these images and extract location data from them.
Cookies: If you post a comment on our platform, you will be offered an option to save a cookie with your name, email address and website. This is only for your convenience. If you post another comment later on, you won’t have to enter this information again. These cookies expire after one year.
If you have an account and log in to the platform, a temporary cookie will be created to determine whether your browser accepts cookies or not. It does not contain any personal data. When you close your browser, this cookie will be automatically deleted.
When you log in, we will set several cookies to store your login information and screen preferences. The lifetime of a login cookie is two days, the lifetime of a screen option cookie is one year. If you check “Remember me”, your login credentials cookie will expire after a fortnight or it will be deleted the moment you log out of your account.
When editing or publishing a post, an additional cookie will be stored in your browser. This cookie does not contain any personal data. It simply indicates the identifier of the item you have just modified. It expires after one day.
Articles/pages on the platform may include embedded content from other websites, such as videos, images, articles… This embedded content behaves in the same way as if you were visiting the external website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third party tracking tools, track your interactions with the embedded content if you have an account on these websites.
Statistics and user behaviour: your IP address and browser user agent are stored for statistics and user behaviour on the platform.
Security
We take the protection of personal data seriously and take appropriate measures to prevent misuse, loss, unauthorised access, unwanted disclosure, or unauthorised modifications. Your data is always transferred with encryption technologies that are recognised as common standards in the IT industry. We have put in place the necessary security measures to prevent the loss, unlawful use or modification of the information we receive.
Data sharing with third parties
Your data will not be passed on to third parties unless this is necessary to deliver our services or to comply with a legal obligation.
Data retention period
We will not store your personal data for longer than is strictly necessary to fulfil the purposes for which your data was collected.
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows us to automatically recognise and approve subsequent comments instead of leaving them in the moderation queue.
If you are registered on the platform, we also store the personal data specified in your profile. All users can view, edit or delete their personal information at any time (except for their username).
Your rights
You have the right to check and correct your personal data. You also have the right to have incorrect data about you corrected, deleted or to prohibit their use. You can request modifications by filling in the contact form. We will then contact you to make the changes. If you think that we have misinterpreted your personal data, you can lodge a complaint with the Privacy Committee at any time.
